AYALA Le Blanc de Blancs, la bouteille de champagne la plus vertueuse

A New Committed Champagne Bottle

Tribute to Nature

AYALA Le Blanc de Blancs becomes today the most virtuous bottle in Champagne

True to the curious and entrepreneurial spirit of its founder, Edmond de AYALA, and through its many initiatives in the vineyard with the Atelier Vignoble project launched in 2024, on its historic site in Aÿ-Champagne currently under renovation, and around the world through its Chefs Engagés ambassadors, the Maison is pursuing a responsible and sustainable environmental approach to create a positive impact from vine to glass, as a tribute to Nature and People.

Several years ago, the Maison chose an iconic clear bottle to present its signature cuvée, AYALA Le Blanc de Blancs. Its shape, ideal for the wine’s development, and its transparency perfectly express the purity of this exceptional Blanc de Blancs

Today, Champagne AYALA introduces an innovation developed in collaboration with Verallia, the European leader and the world’s third-largest producer of glass packaging for beverages and food products. Committed to an ambitious decarbonization path, Verallia aims at achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 (target validated by the SBTi), relying on three complementary levers: the deployment of new low-carbon furnace technologies, lighter packaging, and increased use of cullet (recycled glass) in production.

A noble material that can be endlessly recycled, glass remains the best ally of Champagne Houses to preserve the purity and finesse of aromas. However, aware of the environmental impact of glass—representing around 30% of a Champagne House’s carbon footprint—Maison AYALA initiated more than two years ago an eco-design project to lighten the bottle of its emblematic cuvée AYALA Le Blanc de Blancs.

AYALA Le Blanc de Blancs becomes the most virtuous bottle in Champagne

Thanks to Verallia’s technical expertise and Champagne AYALA’s craftsmanship, a new, lighter bottle—faithful to its iconic silhouette—has been created. Now reduced from 870g to 820g this year, and set to reach 800g next year, this evolution is the result of ongoing collaboration between the two teams. The new model is manufactured in France, in Cognac, in the very first 100% electric furnace dedicated to producing glass packaging for beverages.

This bottle embodies sustainable glass innovation:

  • It is produced using a low-carbon process incorporating 30% recycled glass in the one of a kind 100% electric furnace, reducing CO₂ emissions by 60%.
  • Its 50g weight reduction contributes to an additional 5.7% decrease in CO₂ emissions

Thanks to this combination, this clear bottle becomes the most virtuous on the Champagne market, with a ≈ 66% reduction in environmental impact.

A low-carbon manufacturing process and a lighter weight

The 66% reduction in CO₂ emissions achieved by this new AYALA Le Blanc de Blancs bottle compared to the current version makes it the most virtuous in Champagne today, representing a saving of 40 tonnes of CO₂ in 2025 for our Maison*.
